Help CenterConnecting Your Own Domain

Connecting Your Own Domain

A site works at name.draft2blog.com from the first minute. When you want it on your own address — yourcompany.com or blog.yourcompany.com — connect it on the site's Domain screen.

If You Already Own the Domain

  1. Type the domain and press Connect.
  2. For many registrars this can be done automatically: you are taken to the registrar, you approve, and the records are added for you.
  3. If your registrar is not one of them, you are shown the exact DNS records to add in its panel. Click a value to copy it.
  4. Press Check. Against each record you will see whether it has been found yet.

The Certificate

HTTPS is issued automatically once the records are in place — usually five to fifteen minutes. Until then the browser may complain about the certificate; that is expected and it passes on its own. The status on the screen walks through it: waiting for DNS, issuing SSL, active.

A Root Domain

A domain without a subdomain (yourcompany.com rather than blog.yourcompany.com) needs CNAME flattening — some providers call it ALIAS or ANAME. Most modern registrars have it. DNS changes take a few minutes to spread.

www

Once the domain is connected you are offered to add www as well, so that the www address works too and redirects to the main one.

Worth Knowing

  • One custom domain per site. To connect a different one, disconnect the current one first.
  • A domain already connected to another of your sites can be moved over — you are asked to confirm, and that site keeps working at its draft2blog.com address.
  • Disconnecting a domain does not delete the site.
  • No domain yet? You can check what is available and buy one at cost through Cloudflare, on the same screen.
